Bill Viola

While in New York we visited a Bill Viola exhibition who is one of the leading video artists whos expression through moving image, sound and light created a new platform for media and what can be achieved with technology. I was amazed to hear he uses no effects only that of the camera. His exhibition called "Bodies of Light" and I really enjoyed it what really caught my eye was the footage of people going through a wall of water the water looked amazing as it crashed down over them creating very unsettling moments in the footage and it was the fact that it was raw footage. The 4 screens of hand movements where very surreal and i liked this I never focused on one I would just look at them all as a piece and the movement was smooth.

Me and Mike have teamed up and we are thinking about a music video using a narrative on lines creating a kind of story. we thought about ways of creating the effects we need and the plugin "particular" seemed to have good spec. This video although i thought it was a bit tedious after a while it shown us some ideas and potential. I did like the atmosphere in the video it seemed like a bigger than it was

BODY

Director: Zhivko Dimitrov

Inspired by phenomenology and the role of the human body in shaping perceptions of reality, BODY follows the journey of a fictional character in search for answers to the grand questions of life, the universe and everything.

I found this piece haunting and atmospheric and the hand made style really appealed to me. Although for some reason I felt the piece was unfinished not because of story behind it but the overall look.

RECOVERED

Director: Alfredo Cozzie & Joe Efstathiou

This was a 3-D animated short film based on an evacuted part of london which has been devastated by an unknown robotic type creature.

At first glance this piece looks beautiful and it kind of took me back with its textures and modeling and how much time it must have taken, but after it finished I kind of realised its been done before and it just felt a little unsatisfying.

STUCK ON THE EDGE

Director: Jennifer Fearnley

Recently discharged from hospital, 100 year-old Mavis returns to her London home where she is lonely. Visiting her 99 year-old brother in care home she reveals issues we will all inevitably face.

This was my favourite and my real appeal to it was the connection you feel with this women over time and how I think most people would instantly think about there grand parents. She takes us on a journey through her struggles she deals with day in day out and is in some places very sad and others really funny. Her outlook on death seems almost

for me this video is harmony the pace of the music has been linked seemlesly and the colors used blend well together althou there are flashes of bright prime colors but they still look good. When i first seen this video I really wanted to know what it was created in my first instinct was a particle system in something. I found out this was done in after effects with the plugin "particular 2" and if you have never heard of it check www.trapcode.com
